In short
Google gives you the review link for free in your Business Profile under “Read reviews” and “Get more reviews”. Google also offers a QR code there, but according to Google Help only in a computer browser and without a print template. The tool above turns your link into a QR code and print-ready cards, on your phone as well.
How to find your Google review link
- Open business.google.com on a computer and sign in with the Google account that manages your profile.
- Choose “Read reviews”.
- Choose “Get more reviews”.
- Copy the link and paste it into the field above.
This is how Google Help describes creating a link or QR code for reviews. Button names can change when Google updates its interface. If you do not have a profile yet, this article explains how to set one up: Set up a Google Business Profile.
Which link belongs on the card?
| Link | What it opens | For the QR code |
|---|---|---|
| Link from “Get more reviews” | meant for writing a review | yes |
| Share link from Google Maps (maps.app.goo.gl) | your place on the map | no, customers have to find the review button themselves |
| Link to your website | your own site | no |
The tool tells you if you pasted a map link. Still test the finished code once with a phone before printing a hundred cards.
What Google allows and what it does not
Google covers this in its Maps user contributed content policy, in the section on review manipulation. The key points:
- You may ask customers for a review based on a real experience.
- Incentives for reviews are prohibited, for example money, discounts or free products. This also applies to offering something for changing or removing a negative review.
- Asking only for positive reviews or preventing negative ones is prohibited.
- Customers must not be pressured, according to Google especially not while they are still on site.
- Reviews with a conflict of interest are not allowed, for example from your own staff or family members.
My view: a card on the counter that everyone can see is different from standing next to a customer until they have left a review. That is why the messages in the tool ask for an honest review and say that suggestions for improvement are welcome too.
Be careful with email and WhatsApp in Germany
The German Federal Court of Justice ruled on 10 July 2018 (VI ZR 225/17) that asking for a review by email is advertising, even inside an invoice email. Without consent it is only allowed in narrow exceptions, for example under § 7 (3) UWG for existing customers who were told about their right to object when they gave their address. The same usually applies to text messages and messengers.
Printed material is not affected. Counter cards, business cards and paper invoices are therefore the simplest way. This is not legal advice, and other countries have their own rules.
Where the QR code works best
- On the counter or at the till, where customers wait for a moment anyway. That is what the A6 counter card is for, four fit on one A4 sheet.
- On the printed invoice or delivery note, if you work at the customer's place, for example as a tradesperson.
- On the back of your business card. The template prints ten 85 × 55 mm cards on one A4 sheet.
- As an A4 poster in the waiting area, shop window or on the door.
For a print shop, choose “Save as PDF” in the print dialog. If you need the code in your own layout, download it as SVG. SVG stays sharp at any size.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Google review link cost anything?
No. The Business Profile, the link and Google's QR code are free. This tool is free as well, with no sign-up.
Do my customers need a Google account?
Yes. According to Google Help, customers must be signed in to a Google account to write a review.
Is my link or name stored?
No. The tool runs entirely in your browser. Link, name and text are not sent to me or to any other service.
Can I delete bad reviews?
You cannot delete them yourself. If a review breaks Google's policies, you can report it to Google. You can also reply publicly. Never ask for a review to be removed in exchange for something, Google explicitly prohibits that.
